Repost of video
I'm reposting the video from an .avi file- since it managed to not show any speed issues at the beginning, unlike the other one that I'd uploaded as a .mov file.
Re-post of Expanding Hand - Storyboard Animation Idea from Kristan Orth on Vimeo.
expanding_hand from Kristan Orth on Vimeo.
Note: I did this with a framerate of 16FPS. And Vimeo's upload conditions are more used to 24 to 30FPS. So that's probably why it's so sped up at the beginning, but it looks like it balances out a little over a couple seconds in. And the total time for this clip is 30 sec.

References
The post option is being weird and not letting me add images to the post so here some links to references that helped with my idea for the hand:

And for music: here's the full song of the clip that I used for the word animation:

And I can look for some more examples of electronic-expanding sounding music besides this one.

Since I hadn't gotten an email till this morning, I'd had this idea last night of a robotic/skeletal hand that would give way to the idea of expanding when its fingers would stretch open and outwards, aside from moving closer to the closer to make it seem like it's getting bigger. The last storyboard clip is of the hand getting closer to the camera. But then again, this is just an idea for what we could do.
Don't know what it is, but it's cool, and it expands.

And now for the same mechanics as before, this is time embodied in a double helix structure. More food for expansive thought.

there is lots of origami projects people have made that could be interpreted as expanding and are very cool looking

and yet another expanding mechanical object from mister Hoberman. This view offers a bit more insight into the actual structure of these machines.

another potential idea for construction would be to imitate the function performed by these 'Hoberman Spheres'

This could possibly relate to the actual design of my 'wearable architecture' as it mechanically displays the word 'expand' perfectly.

Kristan's video
"The idea was like when someone's driving down a road, and the objects that are far away expand/get bigger as they get closer. And music was chosen because it made me think of a machine trying to breathe, and how that would lead to it expanding whenever it takes in a breath."
Ivan's video
The idea for mine was a simple balloon like effect that would get inflated to a point it would pop.
